With Winter this year being late and frigid, blooming flowers throughout the city were a welcome sight in April. When the name Pittsburgh is coupled with the word flowers, one famous establishment comes to mind immediately, Phipps Conservatory. The displays within the facility exist all year round, but once the weather is warm enough the outside displays bloom and allow for optimal floral photography. Within the span of two weeks new blooms became full grown flowers.
A location less known but associated with Phipps is Mellon Park. Phipps operates a greenhouse on the property once owned by financial magnate Richard Mellon. His former gardens have since been restored and provide an unrivaled display of flowers in spring and summer.
