Station Square-"The Little Giant"

Station Square, A multi-use complex along Pittsburgh's South Shore is a historical landmark once used as the hub for the P&LERR or Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, also known as the "Little Giant." While the railway itself was one of the shortest in the country, it hauled an amount of freight that was exceptionally larger than its proportions leading to its fitting nickname. Now Station Square is home to retail, hotel, restaurant and future residential space along with the Gateway Clipper Fleet riverboat terminal. The original train station that has existed sine the 1880's is now home to the Grand Concourse, a testament to Pittsburgh's devotion to preserving it's history through repurposing of historic structures. Bounded by the Liberty Bridge and West End Bridge, two of Pittsburgh's most heavily traveled roads, and containing the Gateway Clipper Fleet, the oldest steel bridge in the country-the Smithfield Street Bridge, the Fort Pitt Bridge and a "T" station, Station Square continues to embrace it travel hub based history while proving to be a locus of entertainment for the city of Pittsburgh.

All pictures were taken along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.
